Summary
The School Based Counselor will provide behavioral health services at elementary, intermediate, and high school locations. The School Based Counselor must have demonstrated knowledge of the disease of addiction, twelve-step recovery principles, mental health treatment, and other evidence-based practices in related clinical issues. This position requires experience working in a team treatment approach in a multi-disciplinary clinical setting. The School Based Counselor is required to have prior experience with substance abuse, child, adolescent, and family counseling.
Essential Job Functions/Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide mental health and substance abuse counseling within a school setting.
- Conduct assessments, group counseling, psycho-education, individual counseling, treatment planning, and aftercare planning.
- Work on assigned outpatient mental health cases.
- Develop, implement and modify, as necessary, treatment plans and continuing care plans.
- Perform telehealth and mobile counseling.
- Provide individual, group, family, marital, child and/or adjunctive therapies as needed and within area of expertise and limits of credentials.
- Conduct case management services and prepare discharge summaries.
- Responsible for caseload from other counselors when needed or assigned.
- Interact with referral sources and other external providers to ensure coordination of patient services
- Participate in continuing education activities and in-service training programs to remain knowledgeable in area(s) of expertise and to meet credentialing and privileging requirements.
- Attend meetings as directed and meet with supervisor to receive supervision and participate in clinical reviews.
- Monitor caseload to ensure compliance with third-party payers, including chart reviews, completing pre-certification requests, initial and continuing reviews and authorizations.
- Document inpatient records in accordance with Gosnold standards, regulatory, and payer requirements utilizing electronic formats as required.
- Abide by the professional staff code of ethics and maintain a high level of ethical conduct regarding confidentiality, dual-relationships and professional stature.
- Schedule will reflect flexibility - i.e. not required to work at the same school for the entire day, work at other schools when requested, see outpatients outside of school property and school hours.
- Ability to reduce hours in order to meet productivity.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, Experience, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform the job
- Education: Master’s degree in counseling or related discipline.
- Experience: Documentation of 2000 hours (including intern or practicum hours) of supervised counseling experience may be substituted for the academic requirement if working in a behavioral health program/treatment facility for at least two (2) years.
- Skills: Work familiarity and/or direct experience in the use of relevant technology (EMRs, telehealth, etc.).
- Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: LMHC, LICSW or LCSW preferred.
