Position Summary
Cambrian College’s Employment Options – Chelmsford requires a full-time Employment Consultant on a leave replacement bases until March 2027.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide information and referral, case management, employment planning and preparation, and job placement to Employment Options clients daily.
- Conduct intake interviews to determine client eligibility and needs by identifying and documenting clients’ skills, interests, abilities, barriers, educational background, and work experience.
- Complete all appropriate file documentation which may include items such as: application form, service plan agreement, releases of information, and obtain necessary identification.
- Develop a service plan that clarifies vocational goals, barriers to employment and describes short-term and long-term steps required to overcome barriers and achieve goals. Provide on-going career direction to clients, making appropriate referrals to community services or additional Employment Ontario services as required. Monitor client progress and make appropriate adjustments to the service plan.
- Research, develop and deliver workshops on topics that address the ongoing needs of clients.
- Identify and negotiate career exploration opportunities such as job shadowing, voluntarism, job trials, and on-the-job training placements. Negotiate a subsidy reimbursement rate with employers and payment schedule within prescribed program guidelines. Appraise work sites for safety and quality of training.
- Develop skills training plan in collaboration with training employer and maintain required documentation.
- Monitor client performance during job search and placement; propose and implement appropriate problem solving, as required.
- Maintain client-tracking systems, record the activities of individual clients and ensure the timely completion and accuracy of required documentation including contracts, payroll information, and statistics. Conduct 3, 6, and 12-month client follow-up.
- Liaise with employers, government agencies, a variety of community, social and educational agencies; participate on committees where community planning needs and issues regarding training and employment are being addressed; make presentations to community groups and agencies as required.
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of a two-year postsecondary diploma or equivalent in a related field. (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application).
- Minimum of three years of work experience in career and employment guidance and counselling, along with experience in employment workshop delivery, and job placement.
- Must have worked in an environment where analysis and assessment of client needs, and barriers was required.
- Travel is required to employer job sites to monitor clients; therefore, a valid Ontario Driver’s License and reliable transportation are essential.
- Self-directed individual with the ability to balance multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
- Effective communication skills, good judgement, and the ability to problem solve.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft software such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Commitment to working within a team environment.
Additional Assets/Preferred:
- Experience working within the college system.
