REGIONAL HEALTH INSPECTOR
Position Information: The Regional Public Health Inspector Coordinates and leads a Regional Public Health Inspector Program in close cooperation with the local inspectors and health officials in Hamilton, Essex, Rockport, and Wenham. This position will investigate complaints of unsanitary conditions and practices affecting the public, violations of state codes and regulations, and appropriate Town bylaws. Inspects food establishments and performs environmental inspections and enforces state and local regulations concerning food handling, serving, and storing. Prepares and maintains health records, inspections, findings, actions, and recommendations. Collects environmental samples for lab testing and analysis. Assists the Public Health Director with joint investigations and inspections of local facilities or operations.
Supervision Received: Operates under the discretion and general direction of the Regional Public Health Shared Services Coordinator with additional guidance provided by the member communities' town manager/administrator health directors/agents and public health nurses. This position will provide resources to all four communities but be an employee of the Town of Hamilton.
Position Status: Full-time benefited position, which requires a flexible schedule, with shifts that may vary between days and evenings based on organizational needs.
Caveat: This position is grant-funded and is subject to appropriation under the Massachusetts Public Health Excellence Grant for Shared Services, Department of Public Health. The Public Health Excellence Grant supports local health departments in enhancing their capacity, capabilities, and collaborations to improve community health outcomes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite.
· Seek, develop relationships with, and work cooperatively with community partners; network with other organizations to gain knowledge and act as a liaison to those organizations.
· Serves on employee, local, and regional committees as necessary
· May be required to work flexible hours.
· Conduct periodic check-ins with each Town's Board of Health or designee for debriefing sessions to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
REQUIREMENTS:
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· Previous experience in local public health, environmental services, or a related field is a plus.
· Supplements the health inspector in each town
· Local Public Health Training Institute / TRAIN Massachusetts Foundations Course within 18 months of hire
· Provides support to the Board of Health/Health Departments in each town
· Ability to multi-task and prioritize work
· Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
RECOMMENDED:
· Familiarity with local public health preferred
· Soil Evaluator
· System Inspector
· Food Inspector training
· Housing inspection training
· Certified pool operator / certified pool inspector
· Lead determinator within one year.
· Self-directed, action-oriented, adaptable, and innovative.
· Past success working with a board of directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships.
· Certified Health Officer (CHO) within 3 years of hire
· Registered Sanitarian (RS) within 6 years of hire
