The Middlesex DUIL Program is a 14-day residential program designed for 2nd DUI offenders. The program offers comprehensive Substance Use education and treatment, as well as aftercare preparation. Entry into the program is typically through direct referrals from trial courts across the state. Additionally, the program extends its services to 18-21-year-old first offenders under , as well as those who refer themselves.

The program is structured around evidence-based treatment practices, aiming to empower participants through didactic and motivational sessions. Participants engage in counseling sessions, participate in small group activities, and follow a structured classroom curriculum

The Role

As a Nurse with MHSA's Middlesex DUIL Program, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring the medical safety and stability of potential clients presenting for admission to our two-week residential, educational program for second-time driving under the influence offenders. You'll be responsible for screening clients to assess their ability to complete the program, serving as a medical resource, and helping prevent the admission of clients who may not be physically or emotionally able to participate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain open and professional communication with clients, staff, and external contacts.
  • Conduct interviews and screen incoming clients, serving as a knowledgeable medical resource for non-medical staff screening clients.
  • Review client background and medical history questionnaires for inconsistencies and potential problems.
  • Monitor for signs of substance dependence and alcohol or drug withdrawal.
  • Check client vital signs as necessary.
  • Verify client medications for accuracy, including the correct medication, dose, schedule, and sufficient quantity for 14 days.
  • Ensure that medications align with physician instructions and adhere to Middlesex DUIL Program medication protocols.
  • Assist in the overall client admission process.
  • Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws and MHSA policies.
  • Coordinate client medical services as needed.
  • Order and maintain necessary medical supplies.
  • Perform customary duties necessary for providing appropriate medical care.
  • Attend in-service training and outside instruction as directed by the supervisor.
  • Abide by all MHSA policies regarding boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
  • Fulfill various other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor to ensure the program's success.

What We're Looking For

  • LPN required; RN preferred.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse and AIDS/HIV, with one year of related work experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification required.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Portuguese) preferred.
