Position Description: Director, Marketing Strategy
The Director of Marketing Strategy is a critical position at 52 Launch, directly responsible for guiding clients through the marketing planning process for their new product business. As such, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the foundation of the next wave of consumer brands.
This is a hybrid role between traditional brand-side execution work and pure strategy formulation: You’ll need to define best practices for product and brand positioning, pricing strategy, competitor research, messaging, and other strategic topics, while creating a process for executing them efficiently across dozens of clients at once.
You’ll have an in-house team of marketers and outsourced specialist contractors to leverage in executing this work, and the benefit of a well-defined project management system that details all deliverables.
Exceptional candidates will have experience building unit economics frameworks and an expertise in all GTM-related metrics for consumer brands to prioritize in building their launch campaigns, with an ability to communicate and teach these topics to clients. Top candidates will also have experience collaborating with technical colleagues such as physical-sciences engineers, software developers, or industrial designers.

Responsibilities
Define the marketing strategy framework 52 Launch will use to develop brand and product launch strategies for clients: Includes how to conduct competitor research, building templates for pricing strategy, how to define target audience segments, etc.
Manage team of direct reports to execute on marketing strategy deliverables
Build relationships with clients to collaborate with them on their brand’s development and overall product strategy
Collaborate with in-house industrial designers and manufacturing experts to understand COGS constraints, manufacturing requirements, and other aspects of product development which will inform product functionality, pricing, and other attributes
Create unit economics summaries for clients to leverage in planning their production volumes, setting retail pricing and discounts, allocating budget for advertising, etc.
Build simple, actionable go-to-market campaigns for clients to execute which include both paid and unpaid tactics
Develop high-level brand guidelines, logos, and related content to inform creative and content development
Conduct lightweight competitive audits and translate findings into practical differentiation strategies
Coach and challenge clients to think like brand builders and marketers, not just inventors
Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of experience in marketing roles, including strategic roles in DTC and eCommerce environments
Experience launching new products with an expertise in product marketing strategy to build go-to-market launch campaigns. Ability to identify what value propositions differentiate a product to specific target audiences and use quantitative market research to shape go-to-market launch plans
Proven experience executing tactics and reporting daily/weekly results within DTC go-to-market campaigns, including creating and optimizing Shopify webpages, social media and email marketing campaigns, Google Ads campaigns, more
Ability to create tailored pricing strategy and brand positioning recommendations and present it to clients with referenceable market research data to support the proposals
Experience building unit economics tables, including gross margin, direct margin, and contribution margin
Experience using A/B testing, surveys, and other quantitative data to create marketing recommendations
Ability to build detailed customer segments and craft relevant messaging strategies
Strong storytelling skills and a passion for building compelling product narratives
Excellent customer management skills, including ability to handle strong customer objections, present effectively, and use concise communications
