About General Oncology

General Oncology is a biopharmaceutical company focusing on the development of new treatments for metastatic cancer. We are completing a phase 1 trial on our lead candidate, GO-4, for patients with stage IV pancreatic cancer in the setting of a BRCA mutation and are preparing for a potentially pivotal phase 2 study.

The Role

We are looking for a seasoned Business Development Executive (Senior Vice President / Head of Business Development) to lead the effort in identifying and establishing strategic partnerships, raising capital, and outsourcing opportunities for our Phase 2 trial and growth strategy. This role will greatly contribute to the organization's efforts in identifying and establishing partnerships, secure strategic investments or non-dilutive funding, and out-licensing of our oncology and ultra-high potency small molecule pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop & Execute BD Strategy: Manage the partnering strategy that includes licensing, co-development, M&A, and funding options in line with our Phase 2 strategy.
• Deal Sourcing & Negotiation: In conjunction with our Chief Financial Officer, establish and negotiate the relationship with the strategic partners, including the Big Pharma, mid-size biotechs, and private equity/venture funding.
• Pipeline Development: Develop and maintain a good business development opportunities library and actively look for licensing agreements, co-development, strategic alliances, and partnerships.
• Industry & Competitive Intelligence: Stay current on industry developments, the competitive landscape and the most recent deal making to gain better negotiating position.
• Financial & Valuation Modeling: Work with finance and the executive team to define the terms of the deals, create valuation analyses and prepare term sheets.
• Conference & External Engagement: Act as the representative of General Oncology at important industry gatherings like BIO, JPM Healthcare etc. to develop relationships with the important stakeholders.
• Internal & Board Communication: Share the deal updates and progress reports and strategic recommendations with the executive leadership and the Board.

Success Criteria – 30/60/90 Days

First 30 Days: Get a thorough understanding of the company’s science, assets, financials, and market status in order to set a BD plan.

• Internal Immersion: Meet with the CEO, CSO, CFO, and learn the mechanism of action of GO-4, the trial outcomes, IP, and regulatory approach.
• Competitive & Market Analysis: Examine the market dynamics, deal benchmarks, and the activities of the competitors in the oncology BD market.
• Partner Target List: Create a first list of potential licensing and co-development partners – Big Pharma and biotech companies.
• Initial Outreach: Start the relationship with the potential partners and investors.

Days 31-60: The goal for days 31-60 is to move partner conversations from introductory to preliminary conversations.

• Business Development Pipeline Expansion: Meet with 10+ potential licensing or development partners to introduce them to the concept. Review the feedback on the deal structures and adjust the valuation expectations.
• Refining the BD Strategy: Discuss with the CFO and the Board of Directors concerning the licensing and co-development strategies.
• Conference Participation & Networking: Attend at least one major industry event to build connections. Connect with and interact with investors, pharma BD teams, and strategic partners.
• Financial & Due Diligence Preparation: Grant access to the data room and partner due diligence packages.

Days 60-90: The goal for the incumbent in days 61-90 is to have at least one licensing or co-development deal to term sheet discussions.

• Get real interest from 2-3 companies. Share due diligence information with the entities that have expressed interest.
• Negotiation & Term Sheet Development: Prepare at least one term sheet for licensing, co-development, or equity financing. Demonstrate possible financial returns and deal structures.
• Regulatory & Strategic Coordination: Ensure that the BD activities are in sync with the FDA pre-phase 2 meeting. Get non-dilutive funding (grant, institutional funding, etc.).
• Executive & Board Presentation: Present a complete BD report to executive leadership and the Board.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, business, or related field, Ph.D./MBA preferred
• Seven to fifteen years of experience in biopharma BD with a track record of completing licensing or M&A transactions.
• Extensive understanding of the oncology market and strong pharma and biotech networks.
• Experience in the formation of biotech-pharma outsourcing agreements.
• Knowledge of valuation modeling, deal funding, and market relations.
• The ability to communicate with C-level executives, partners, and investors.

Compensation

A competitive base salary with bonus incentives that are performance based, and a stock option grant that is tied to the growth of the company and partnership milestones.
