Position Summary
Cambrian College’s Career Centre has an immediate requirement for a Career Advisor on a one-year leave replacement basis starting in April 2025.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement an ongoing student and alumni campaign designed to prepare students for a meaningful career within their field of study.
- Provide individual and group assistance to, counsel, inform and educate students, graduates and community members on all aspects of employment search and career planning including job readiness skills, job search strategies, career maintenance and advanced career strategies, soft skills and interview/résumé skills through individual and group workshops and presentations (via telephone, email, in person and in class visits).
- Identify and develop employment markets and initiate employer visits to promote Cambrian’s students, graduates and alumni resulting in the development of job postings and opportunities. Work with community employers so they consider Cambrian College’s students and graduates for their employment needs.
- Collaborate with all academic areas and various College departments in conducting classroom sessions and workshops in résumé writing, interview techniques, and job search skills to ensure that all students and graduates are prepared for the employment recruitment process.
- Conduct presentations for Cambrian College students and graduates, high school students, teachers, and community partners.
- Travel the province of Ontario conducting appointments with employers and participating in career related activities throughout the academic year.
- Coordinate social media content and communication strategies, both internal and external, to support departmental goals. Stay abreast of changing technologies that support flexible access for all stakeholders (example: ORBIS, Interview stream, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram or relevant platform).
- Assist in the planning, development, recruiting, implementation, and hosting of the annual on campus Career and Job Fair in addition to participation in other career oriented, program specific activities on and off campus. Upon Director’s request, take event lead as needed. (Example, Orientation, FGEN activities, International/Indigenous events, Open House, Move-In Weekend, OCIF, Skills Competition, Dual Credit activities etc.)
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of a three-year postsecondary diploma/degree or equivalent, preferably within the area of Business, Communications, Public Relations, Social Services, or Marketing. (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application).
- Two years of experience in the job search and career planning process, including the delivery of workshops and presentations in a formal setting, and in personal employment counselling.
- Must have a sound sales, communication, and marketing background that centers on the promotion of people and their skills in the local, provincial, national, and international markets.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Must be a motivated professional with excellent interpersonal, communication, and time-management skills.
- Must be able to work independently and within a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Additional Assets/Preferred
- Experience working within a postsecondary or secondary environment.
- Solid understanding of social media and related technological platforms.
- Proven community and employer connections.
