This position will be within the Engineering and Materials Science department, which supports Vertex's drug development programs by developing a deep understanding of the relationships between materials properties, pharmaceutical processing conditions, and final product performance and quality attributes. Members of the department apply conceptual and data-driven knowledge of materials science and engineering principles to improve process understanding and development of drug candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- SCXRD data indexing, integration, and scaling (Bruker and/or Rigaku software), including twinned data
- Structure solution and refinement, including treatment of disorder
- Structure validation (Platon) and confirmation of absolute structure when applicable
- Cif finalization with standard and custom fields
- Report generation from formatted template
- Electronic notebook documentation of work
Requirements
- Degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Physics or other related field with academic training in crystallography
- Experience in processing small molecule raw SCXRD data in either Crysalis (Rigaku) or Apex (Bruker) software
- Experience in refining small molecule crystal structures with Shelx suite of software
- Experience in small molecule structure and cif finalization and report generation
- Experience in handling complex data/structures (e.g. twinning, disorder) preferred
- Strong scientific writing/communication skills
